Pink Eye & Styes

Common Signs and Symptoms:

PINK EYE

  • Redness to the eye(s)
  • Itchy eyes
  • Excessive tears
  • Mattered eyes (discharge of a yellow or clear fluid which may cause the eyelids and eyelashes to stick together, particularly during sleep and noticed in the morning upon waking)
  • Recent/current upper respiratory infection

STYES

  • Swollen eye lid(s)
  • Sudden onset of local tenderness
  • Redness of the eye lid(s)
  • Pain of the eye lids(s)
  • Vision slightly blurred
  • External: visible nodule(s) present below the margin of the eye lid
  • Internal: may be no visible nodule present
Referrals:

PINK EYE

Patient will be referred to primary care provider if:

  • History of chronic eye problems
  • History of trauma to the eye
  • Complains of moderate to severe eye pain with increased pain when exposed to light
  • History of chronic eye problems or if you are on chronic eye drop medication therapy.
  • Have an immunocompromised condition

STYES

Patient will be referred to primary care provider if:

  • Presence of large lesion requiring drainage
  • Patients who are immunocompromised
