Mononucleosis

Common Signs and Symptoms:

Definitive diagnosis done by Mono Spot test.

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen glands
  • Enlarged spleen or liver
  • Occasional jaundice (yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes)
Referrals:

Patient will be referred to primary care provider if:

  • Mono spot test is positive
  • Unable to swallow secretions or keep fluids down
  • Complains of severe abdominal pain
  • Appearance of jaundice
  • Ill for greater than 4 weeks
  • Have an immunocompromised condition
